Restaurant and Takeaway

January 2021

The latest lockdown has obliged us to close again.

We will re-open in February, subject to restrictions.

Thanks to all our customers for your continued support,

and we look forward to seeing you again.

Meanwhile, stay safe and well!

Welcome back to the Gateway!

We have spent the Summer transforming the Gateway into a comfortable and homely licensed restaurant.

We opened again at the end of September with limited Covid-safe seating - booking is essential - along with our popular takeaway service,

The emphasis is on Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, with other global influences, as well as dishes from closer to home.

As always, our dishes are seasonally inspired, delicious and

well-crafted, using locally sourced produce from

the suppliers we have come to trust.

We look forward to seeing you!

Our story

We took over the long-established Gateway Tea Room in 2015,

breathing new life into the 17th century building, and creating a menu with traditional elements as well as more adventurous and exotic dishes.

Every winter we have transformed the tea room into an authentic south Indian thali restaurant, and this is what gave us the idea of offering globally-inspired food along with homely meals

in a comfortable restaurant setting.

We started offering takeaway meals at the beginning of the lockdown, and we are now ready to offer both takeaway and restaurant service.

Please see the menu pages for more details.

Our ethos

We are blessed on Dartmoor with a wealth of mindful producers,

who, like us, believe that local, low-impact, sustainable food and drink supplies should be the norm. So when we say that most of our ingredients are locally sourced, we mean within a few miles.

We love good food, and most of what we offer is made here on the premises.  We try to cater for all tastes, and we can usually offer

vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options.
